Nicarela Charity to host their Potjiekos competition in George Hay Park
Funds raised from the Potjiekos competition will go towards the Nicarela Charity.
As charities across the country will be celebrating Mandela Month by making a mark and making a difference, Nicarela Charity will host their famous Potjiekos competition again on July 30, under the trees in George Hay Park, Parkview.
Coordinator of Nicarela Peter Atteridge said, “All proceeds from the day from entry fees payable by teams cooking and vying for the title of Potjie Champion, to money raised from the sale of plates of potjie and from other delicious food stalls, will go entirely to beneficiaries of the charity including care homes for abused women and children, local school bursaries and the homeless.”
Atteridge added that there will be over 30 pots to choose from, including a few vegetarian options.
Teams of four are welcome with themed meal ideas and contestants will be judged on their food, their vibe and decoration.
Locals are encouraged to join the different teams from 9:30 and enjoy a breakfast roll, pancakes or spare ribs. Children can have fun in the kids zone while parents relax enjoying live music, a cup of coffee or adult drinks which will be on sale.
A plate of potjie on the day will be sold to visitors from midday with a choice of either rice or pap at R90 per bowl.
The winning team will be crowned 2023 Potjiekos Champions. Visitors on the day are allowed to take part in voting for the Best decorated stall and stand a chance to win the lucky draw. A team of esteemed judges will select the top three teams and one vibey group will win the ‘Gees’ prize.
There is no entrance fee for the public into the park, they are simply invited to join in a fun day out at the same time as supporting a great cause.
