Parkview police arrest three suspects on three charges

The Parkview police arrested three suspects occupying a reportedly suspicious vehicle and found out vehicle had been hijacked last year.

Three suspects aged between 36 and 40 years were arrested in Parktown North for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of live ammunition, and possession of a hijacked vehicle. Parkview police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko reported that the suspects were arrested on April 28.

Parkview Police received information about a white Opel with three male occupants alleged to be committing house and Rolex robberies around the Parkview policing precinct and neighbouring areas. The motor vehicle was spotted along 7th and Jan Smuts avenues, Parktown North. “The police stopped the vehicle. A preliminary investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was reported as having been hijacked in 2022 at Jeppe Police Station. The occupants had two unlicensed firearms and ammunition and were arrested,” said Sibeko.

All the suspects appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court on May 2 to answer the charges.

Parkview police station commander Colonel Devan Govender commended the members of Parkview SAPS and highway patrol, JMPD and private security for the swift response in arresting the suspects. Colonel Govender further stated that all law enforcement agencies operating within the Parkview policing area will continue to address the causes of crime while investigating and preventing all acts which threaten the safety of the residents.
