Norwood police still searching for copper cable thief

Norwood police urge community members to stop staying silent when they witness the theft of copper cables and other acts of vandalism and destruction of infrastructure as it affects our quality of life and society as a whole.

Copper cable theft pertains to all communities.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said one suspect was arrested for stealing copper cables in Melrose.

Private security officers were the ones who caught the suspects, and it is alleged that the other suspect managed to escape.

When the police searched the suspect, they found more than three metres of stolen cables, a spade, and a pick.

“One suspect appeared before the court where bail was denied. He remains in custody and the other is still on the run.”

The community is being urged to stop staying silent when they witness the theft of copper cables and other acts of vandalism and destruction of infrastructure as it affects our quality of life and society as a whole.

Masotsha concludes by saying he appreciates Norwood’s management and its members, who work hard at fighting crime in the community.
