Joburg Water team backfills exposed hole in Saxonwold

The two main cables cut during an excavation at the corner of Beechwold and Aldswold in Saxonwold affected the community's power supply.

A City Power team attended to a damaged electrical cable at the corner of Beechwold and Aldswold roads in Saxonwold on January 13 after a contractor had struck it during excavation.

This comes after a resident on the Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association group on Facebook complained about the main electrical cable being exposed for six days.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said, “We have a team on-site attending to this, repairing the cable and ensuring customers have power. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the customers.”

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said he was aware of the dug-up hole and the damaged cable.

“It is the responsibility of Joburg Water to reinstate the exposed hole. They will probably backfill with soil and it will sit there for months as they haven’t got the capacity to do the reinstatements.”

Joburg Water acting manager Puleng Mopeli responded to the Gazette’s questions on January 18.

“The cable has been fixed and the backfilling team is on site.”
