Andre’s Taekwondo Academy in Norwood inspires parent

Andre's Taekwondo Academy consists of 150 adult participants and 100 participants at nursery schools.

Andre’s Taekwondo Academy student, Carol-Ann Woolf gained interest in martial arts after watching her son practice.

Woolf said she has never looked back since she was introduced to the martial arts.

“About six years ago while I watched my son practice, Andre the owner of the Taekwondo Academy, asked me if I would like to try kickboxing, I agreed and immediately became hooked.”

The 51-year-old added that martial arts gave her a purposeful life.

She explained that her love for martial arts resulted in the accolades she received throughout her years of competing.

“In kickboxing, I am an African Champion and a South African Champion, in Taekwondo I have over 50 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals, and two Bronze Medals. absolutely love the sparring and self-defence aspect of martial arts.”

Woolf added that she began Taekwondo two years ago and kickboxing four years ago, and enjoys the fitness and strength gained throughout the years.

The fitness enthusiast concluded that the martial arts taught her discipline, honour, respect, and punctuality. The sport also gave her a newfound confidence and the privilege of meeting new people and forming new relationships.

Woolf’s advice to people who are interested in martial arts is:

  • Be confident and go for it.
  • Take it seriously and it will drastically improve your health and change the way you look at yourself and the world.
  • Be open to learning from your coach and others around you
