Parktown High School for Girls hosts 18 schools for sports festival
Parktown High School for Girls' headmistress expressed that the past two years have taught everyone the importance of seizing the moment and doing what one loves.
The annual Spring Sports Festival hosted by Parktown High School for Girls was a success. The school in Parkview hosted 18 other schools for the event on October 14 – 15.
Parktown Girls headmistress Tracey Megom said, “We can’t deny that sport is such a fantastic way to bring people with a common interest together and we welcome you in the spirit of healthy competition, friendship and camaraderie. The past two years have taught us to seize the moment, so embrace this opportunity to participate, compete and do the thing you love whilst meeting new people and making new friends.
Megom thanked the school’s sports director Catherine McCreesh and Cailin Whyte who worked tirelessly to make the festival a success.
There were three paramedics as well as the school first aid team on duty for any injuries or medical concerns.
Learners competed in various sports including fast 5’s netball, hockey 5’s, 6 a-side soccer, tennis, water polo and cross country.
McCreesh said, “Congratulations to the players who were selected as Player of the Festival. After each match, the umpires/referee’s nominated a player of the match. These nominations were tallied at the end of the day, and the players with the most nominations were awarded the Player of the Festival.
From Parktown Girls, Hanan Narlakhi was Player of the Festival for soccer and Enreth Daniel for cross country.
First place winners were as follows:
- Hockey – Sports GwaanzNetball – Trinity House Randpark Ridge
- Soccer – Parktown High School for Girls
- Tennis – St Mary’s High School, Waverley
- Water polo – Reddam House Bedfordview
- Cross country – Parktown High School for Girls
