Phase two of 6th Avenue Park clean-up was a successful

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck believes clean-ups are the beginning of enforcing by-laws.

The City of Johannesburg completed phase two of its clean-up operation at 6th Avenue Park in Parkhurst on September 14.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said such campaigns were necessary for the environment.

“There are many areas along our streams and rivers that are difficult to keep clean and free of people living there. Operations like this are much needed and I appreciate the effort of all those involved.”

Truluck added that it was important for clean-ups to be continuous.

“However, there needs to be more of them and it is hoped that these recent clean-ups are the beginnings of a more determined effort by the city to start enforcing the by-laws in our parks and green open spaces.”

“JMPD operations officers were part of a clean-up campaign conducted together with various stakeholders in Parkhurst. JMPD’s primary role in the operation was to ensure that everyone involved is safe, especially in areas where there are homeless people who usually oppose these kinds of clean-up campaigns.”
