Crafting with kids: Create an owl with an acorn

Celebrate Spring by helping your child make these acorn owls. They are super fun and a great craft for toddlers and preschoolers.

It’s officially spring and that means more time outdoors. Children love to play in the garden and collect items from Mother Nature. It is a treasure hunt, as they discover beautiful leaves, pinecones and acorns. This acorn owl craft is a real “hoot”, easy to make, and, best of all, thrifty.

What you need

  • Acorns
  • Felt scraps (or colored paper)
  • Small googly eyes
  • Glue (craft glue or glue gun)
  • Scissors

How to make it

  1. Help your child collect a handful of large acorns.
  2. Using child-friendly scissors, help your child cut out the beak and wings from the felt scraps.
  3. Glue the body parts onto acorn.
  4. Using a glue gun or craft glue, stick on two googly eyes.
  5. Make a little hat (from the acorn capule).
  6. Find a few small twigs and some real leaves and stick them along with your acorn owl on a piece of felt.
