Wanderers Stadium hosts about 500 children for the KFC Mini Cricket festival

Several schools, including Rosebank Primary School, participated in the 40th year of the KFC Mini-Cricket festival at Wanderers Stadium.

South Africa’s leading cricket development programme is celebrating 40 years of changing lives in communities.

This season, the KFC Mini-Cricket programme returned to the field with a mega festival which took place across the country on August 20. Rosebank Primary School learners were part of the about 500 children who took part in the festival at Wanderers Stadium in Illovo.

Shawn Belluigi of Intune Communications and Entertainment shared that the season’s return coincides with the 14th anniversary of KFC’s sponsorship of the programme that keeps children engaged in after-school activities and teaches them not only the fundamentals of cricket but also helps them explore and develop life and social skills.

KFC marketing manager Brand and Purpose Andra Ferreria Nel said, “Today’s KFC Mini-Cricket Mega festival was a great example of how sport creates a platform to level the playing field for our children and unite communities across the country. We are proud to be a partner in cricket that affords our youth with an opportunity to play the game they love and gives them level playing fields to achieve their dreams.”

Through the dedication of the programme’s coaches and coordinators, the children once again obtained an opportunity to play the sport they love and create new friendships.

Belluigi said this year the programme celebrated 40 years, which translated into many years of unearthing some of the best talents in cricket and creating real sports fans of the game.
