Local author and social activist Mongi Maphipha’s death has saddened and shocked Orange Grove residents.

Norwood’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 4 chairperson Cebi Ngqinambi said the death of the author was a loss to the community.

According to Ngqinambi, Maphipha died on August 18 and the cause of his death remains unclear.

“Mongi was inspirational, he wrote about real social ills that he experienced and was exposed to. He was compassionate towards what people were going through and wanted to ensure that we could communicate the social ills from the mountain tops because he believed that by having conversations, we can come up with solutions.

“Mongs was a good author , he articulated social problems effortlessly in his books. He always prioritised his community, even if it meant walking kilometres to get something done in Alexandra, he did it.
