Saturday women’s squash league at Wanderers

A safe, easy format for women who play squash at The Wanderers Club.

The Wanderers Club has introduced a monthly Saturday morning squash event.

In addressing the safety issues of traveling to and returning after dark from squash games, Dino Petrarolo, chair of Wanderers Club squash section said, “The format of home and away games during weekday evenings has made this unattractive for ladies who also have commitments around work-life balance.”

He said the club had proposed a format where women would play squash at a central venue on Saturdays and the first event was scheduled for May 14. Players entering the league would be assigned a team and position, based on their experience and ranking. The teams will range from first to fourth league levels.

First league players would participate on the Wanderers championship all-glass court, the second and third league players on the standard or championship courts, and the fourth league players on the standard court.

“Wanderers Club offers squash courts of world championship quality. Our all-glass wall courts with ‘one-way’ glass present players with almost opaque walls while spectators can watch the action from all sides. This provides facilities behind the front wall to take photos and videos while facing the players, for training and publicity purposes.”
