Pirates Ponte Challenge sees runners explore the inner city

GREENSIDE – Proceeds from the run went to the Dlala Nje Foundation which assists to provide a safe environment for children in the neighbouring community of Hillbrow and Berea.

Keen runners raised funds for the Dlala Nje Foundation by running a tough 21km course from Pirates Club in Greenside to Ponte Towers in Berea.

Vice chairperson of the Pirates Running Club Natalie Mills described the course as a challenging 10.5km going up the many hills past St John’s College into Hillbrow and up the Ponte Towers.

Runners enjoyed a tasty traditional breakfast at the tower before heading home on an easier downhill back to Pirates Club.

About 160 runners joined the event.

Proceeds from the run went to the Dlala Nje Foundation which assists to provide a safe environment for children in the neighbouring community of Hillbrow and Berea.

“Runners loved to see parts of the inner city that they usually don’t get to see as well as the amazing work that Dlala Nje has done to help clean up Ponte,” said Mills.

This was the second Pirates Ponte Challenge.

“We hope to be back next year with even bigger crowds to expose more people to the inner city,” said Mills.
