Saxonwold motorists have acknowledged concerns over a dangerous intersection

SAXONWOLD – One road user highlighted how he nearly ran into a collision at the intersection.

A motorist using Beechwold Road and Erlswold Way in Saxonwold shared that he nearly had a head-on collision recently.

Paul Shiakallis said he was travelling up north, on Erlswold Way, close to the Military Museum entrance, while another car was travelling in the opposite direction, down south, from Erlswold Way onto Beechwold Road.

“Now what’s confusing is that the road looks straight when looking down Erlswold Way, but if you look at the road markings [the double carriage line] it veers left, so what I should have done was slowed down and indicated right to enter Beechwold Road,” said Shiakallis.

“The road markings are very faint and almost unnoticeable at night. Even if the road markings were bold, I still feel the intersection needs a circle or a stop sign on both the Erlswold Road’ sides to avoid confusion.”

On social media, a few more residents acknowledged that they had been in similar, near-accident, situations at the intersections and agreed that it needed attention.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency was contacted and Communications officer Mosa Makhalima said, “I have sent your query to the relevant department and will revert.”
