Suspect caught in possession of illegal substances

HOUGHTON – Police take in suspect found with illegal substances.

Crime prevention members from the Norwood Police Station arrested one male found in possession of drugs.

Spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said the members were performing their routine duties of stop and search within the Norwood precinct on March 21 midday.

Sergeant Vusimuzi Samson Vhangani and Thamsani Ernest Nyalungu under their group leader Sergeant Samuel Khang cornered a suspect at Houghton Drive toward Louis Botha Avenue in Houghton.

Matsotsha explained, “After police had been given permission to search the 26-year-old suspect, ziplock bags containing illegal substances were found in his possession in the front right pocket of his trousers. The suspect was asked why he was in possession of illegal substances but failed to give a plausible response. [He] was transported to Norwood cells for formal detention.”

Exhibits were registered in the exhibits registers as evidence before the court. The Norwood Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Mathe applauded crime prevention members who keep on doing a great job of effecting arrests and attaining successes.

The Norwood police also shared the following tip: Don’t buy any valuable items/ goods on social media. Better make thorough enquiries before you transact or make any payments for either holiday invitations or any form of competition which you don’t understand.
