Datacom stands for Data Communication, which is Huawei’s upgraded version of their flagship Routing and Switching (R&S) certification series, designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills you’ll need for the future of intelligent IP networks in the areas listed below.
Advanced technology: Huawei Datacom Certification includes knowledge of cutting-edge Datacom network technologies like SDN, VXLAN, SR/SRv6, as well as network programming and automation.
Various fields: This certification includes various Datacom fields such as campus networks, SD-WAN, and WAN.
Comprehensive capabilities: This certification is about how technology can be used in real-world situations. Certified people will be able to design, build, operate, maintain, and improve networks.

The Huawei Datacom Certification levels are:
HCIA–Datacom aims to develop network engineers with entry-level Datacom skills and knowledge.
HCIP–Datacom for those interested in becoming senior engineers in the fields of cross-domain solution planning and design, or single-domain solution planning and deployment.
HCIP–Datacom certification has one core technical requirement, namely HCIP–Datacom Core Technology and six sub-directions:

- HCIP–Datacom Campus Network Planning and Deployment
- HCIP–Datacom Network Automation Developer

HCIE–Datacom which aims to develop network experts who have a theoretical understanding of solutions and the ability to deploy networks across domains.
Important details to take note of:
- All Huawei R&S certifications levels (HCIA, HCIP, or HCIE) and their exams will be written on 30 June 2022.
- To acquire your Huawei’s R&S certification, be sure that any outstanding R&S certification series exam/s are done before 30 June 2022.
- You will be issued with Huawei’s R&S certification if successfully completing the associated certification level exams before 30 June 2022.
- If you are new to Huawei certification and want to get Huawei R&S certified, it is recommended that you follow Huawei’s new Datacom certification tracks.
- Candidates’ Routing & Switching certifications will automatically update to the certificate of the corresponding level for Datacom certification after the Routing & Switching certification goes offline (on July 1, 2022).
- The certification validity period inherits the routing and switching validity period.
- HCIA-Routing and Switching certification will be updated to HCIA-Datacom
- HCIP-Routing and Switching certification will be updated to HCIP-Datacom Advanced Routing and Switching Technology certification
- HCIE-Routing and Switching will be updated to HCIE-Datacom certification
- Only certification, not a single HCIP R&S exam result, will be mapped to a Datacom certification. This means that if you only passed one or two HCIP-R&S exams, they will not be mapped to any Datacom exam or certification.
- From July 1, 2022, you will be required to pass the new Datacom certification exams.

Q: How long is the validity period of the Datacom certificate?
It starts from the date the certificate is issued. HCIA-Datacom and HCIP-Datacom certificates are valid for three years. The HCIE-Datacom certificate is valid for two years.
Q: What are the re-certification rules for Datacom certification?
Huawei has two types of certifications: ICT Infrastructure certification and Cloud Service and Platform certification. The validity period can be changed in one of the following three ways:
(1) The HCIP-Datacom recertification must pass the mandatory exam or any optional exam.
(2) Any exam of the higher-level certification in Datacom certification must be passed.
(3) Any exam of the same or higher-level certification which form the ICT infrastructure certification.
