Pandemic fails to deter matriculants who pass
HOUGHTON – The Head of Sacred Heart College commended the learners’ resilience and grit.
Head of College at Sacred Heart, Heather Blanckensee writes:
Sacred Heart College congratulates all matriculants, in Southern Africa, who wrote their matric examinations last year. Many of you entered this world post the 9/11 tragedy and now you have completed your schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic.
These two defining events of the first two decades of your lives will forever be etched in the archives of history as having a significant impact on the world and your lives. Being born in and growing up during this period of terrorism, economic recession, climate change, growing nationalism, racism and awareness of gender-based violence has contributed to you becoming globally aware, social justice warriors. You are regarded as the most connected, sophisticated and influential generation ever.
Completing your last year of schooling during the pandemic has sharpened your resilience and grit, forced you to reflect on your purpose in this life and encouraged appreciation and gratitude of your life’s memories, adventures and all that you hold dear, including family, friends and teachers.
We are very proud to announce our matric results:
- A 100% pass rate, 92% bachelors degree pass.
- A 80% of our learners received one or more distinctions.
- Jyhan Adam with seven distinctions was placed in the top 1% for information technology and top 1% of candidates within the IEB who were placed in the top 1% in five subjects and received a seven for life orientation.
- Adela Jardine with seven distinctions was placed in the top 1% for English and business studies.
- Tanyaradza Kaseke with six distinctions.
To all our Sacred Heart College matriculants: congratulations! Your individual creativity, sense of community, ability to think critically and collaboratively will extend far beyond Sacred Heart College. This is a solid foundation that will hold you in good stead as each of you moves on to the next stage of the great journey of your life.
