Join the weekly Pirates time trial

GREENSIDE – Runners are encouraged to wear brightly coloured gear and headlamps during the winter months for their own safety.

Community members are invited to join the Pirates Time Trials on Tuesdays at 17:45.

Local runners can park at the entrance in Cruden Bay Road and begin the run at the Bowls Club side.

The routes include a 5km and 8km option.

Chair of the Pirates Road Running Gerry Greyling described the trial as fast and flat with enough challenge to the test speed and strength of runners of all fitness levels.

The event is free and runners do not need to be part of Pirates to join.

Runners are encouraged to wear brightly coloured gear and headlamps during the winter months for their own safety.

Greyling said, “Time trial is a great way of increasing your fitness, adding speed work to your training or just building stamina over time.”

“The short, fast routes are timed and while there’s friendly banter and a leader board for the top five men and women in both distances, you are really only competing against yourself by trying to improve your time from one week to the next.

“It’s also a great way for locals with a common interest to connect and have some refreshments on the deck afterwards.”
