Parktown High School for Girls takes home the fifth weekly prize of the Dance of Brave challenge

PARKTOWN – The girls they took advantage of their study breaks to practise the dance.

Parktown High School for Girls learners embraced the challenges thrown their way this past year, including Dance of Brave.

The school has won the fifth weekly cash prize of R5 000 from the News24 and Adcock Ingram OTC Dance of Brave challenge.

Deputy principal Gail Davidson shared the motivation behind taking part in the challenge, “Our girls have had to be brave and dig deep, both academically, emotionally, and mentally.

“The dance challenge came at just the right time, before the final exams, and our girls and staff were able to have a little fun during the filming of this dance. We are grateful that we were able to participate,” Davidson said.

Learners were told about the dance a couple of days prior to filming, and the tutorial video was sent home to all girls via WhatsApp.

As the girls had little time for practice between studying for exams, they took advantage of their study breaks to practise the dance. “On the day of the filming, there was such joyful energy on the school grounds. It was a beautiful summer’s day in Joburg and a very special moment for our school as well.”

The prize money will be used to help the school’s parent’s association which has been raising funds towards redoing the stands at the soccer field – something that will benefit all the girls.

“This is such a wonderful competition as dance and music do unite people. We, as South Africans, are strong and brave and challenges like this help you to work together as a team and to rise up and do the best you can.”

Davidson added that the girls at Parktown are brave every day and that the dance was wonderful to share with families, loved ones, and the surrounding community and will hopefully challenge more people to take part in the competition.

Nicole Austin, Adcock Ingram OTC ,sponsors of Brave ambassador, encourages everyone to get involved in the challenge.

“Our country has weathered so many storms, and we continue to rise, mostly because of our spirit of gratitude. We express this in many ways, but there is no more impactful way to show our courageous South African spirit than through song and dance,” Austin concluded.
