Local author’s new book offers multiple solutions to curb GBV and Domestic Violence

JOBURG – “The effects of gender-based violence and domestic violence are more psychologically dangerous, especially for children, says the author.

Orange Grove-based author, Mongi Maphipha recently published his latest educational book, Gender-Based Violence – From the Child’s Eye.

The publication is an educational book that addresses signs children show when they have been victims or have witnessed gender-based violence and domestic violence.

Maphipha has so far donated copies of his book to Norwood Police Station, LifeLine VEC, and Alex Arts Academy as part of his campaign to combat this scourge.

According to Maphipha, most abusers were either abused or witnessed violence when they were too young to report their experiences, and so he wrote the book.

“The fight against gender-based violence and domestic violence has raged on for many years now. Yet children and women continue getting abused, physically, verbally, emotionally and many are getting killed,” Maphipha said.

In his book, Maphipha advises parents, guardians, and teachers to look for and act upon once they notice that children are having sleep difficulties, angry outbursts, somatic complaints, regression, increased separation, and anxiety symptoms.

He noted that most parents and teachers were unaware of the causes of these signs. However, later in life what a child experienced when they were younger could lead them to repeat the experiences.

“Noticing the signs, helping children open up and seeking professional help is a step toward reducing and defeating gender-based violence and domestic violence.”

Details: The book is available on major online bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, Apple Books, and Amazon Books. Hard copies are available from the author on request 081 579 9919 or 081 342 6788
