Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation learners excel in the World Ort Yep Final Competition

HOUGHTON – The management of Ort Sa, Houghton have announced the successful results of YEP beneficiary learners in the recent World Ort YEP Final Competition.

Never underestimate a person’s potential.

Ort Sa, Houghton has strived to incorporate this ethos through its mission to upskill and educate young South Africans in disadvantaged areas for a promising future.

In partnership with Support Teacher Empowerment Trust, the team of Ort Sa implemented a coding and robotics extra-curricular programme in 2017 at Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation. The primary focus of the extra-curricular programme was to help teachers empower their learners with technological and entrepreneurial skills.

Four years later, a selected number of teachers and learners participated in the World Ort Yep (Youth Entrepreneurship Programme) Competition, which consisted of seven competitors from different geographic locations such as Argentina and Brazil, to name a few. The Ort Sa Yep team consisted of four teachers and 12 learners (one boy and eleven girls), called Team CNSOS (Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation).

For the World Ort Yep Final Competition, Team CNSOS decided to create a prototype health booth that would alleviate pressure at medical clinics, and be of convenience to residents of South Africa.

After months of hard work and preparation, on October 20, it was time for the team to showcase their invention to the judges of the Yep Final Competition. The team was awarded second place in the competition.

Ort SA congratulated coding facilitator Amini Murinda for guiding the learners over the past few years. The company has also commended the principal and teachers of the school for patiently walking the journey with the learners as the programme was rolled out.

The learners have been saluted for their hard work and dedication in completing their four-year journey and achieving a level of excellence which has made management and staff of Ort SA proud of them.
