Lions set sight on victory

ILLOVO – The Imperial Lions Men CSA 4-Day Series was officially welcomed at a media launch on Thursday last week (October 28).

A determined Lions team met at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium on October 28 for the official launch of the CSA 4-Day Series.

The series will begin on October 29 at the stadium. Attending the launch, to impress members of the media with their cricketing skills and knowledge of the game were Lions head coach, Wandile Gwavu, team captain, Dominic Hendricks and the other members of the team.

New energy, young blood and renewed enthusiasm for cricket and the game, has revived the side, who openly professed to being committed to overlooking any disappointments of the past, and embracing this new season in sport with the expectation of victory.

Before the launch, the team could be seen kicking a soccer ball between themselves, showing the challenges of the past year-and-a-half had only brought them closer together as a team. As player Duanne Olivier said, teamwork had taken centre stage this new season.

After a Q & A session with the media, some rigorous cricket training ensued, and focus was the order of the day. Hendricks said Friday’s match would be without spectators but the team was thrilled to be together doing what they loved best. He said they said they hoped things would soon be normal for cricket fans, and that the Imperial Wanderers Stadium would once again be filled with cheering spectators.
