Norwood policing officials announce 67 arrests during September

NORWOOD – Norwood SAPS have announced numerous successful arrests during the month of September.

Norwood police made 67 arrests during September for crimes ranging from fraud to armed robbery.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said suspects had been arrested for various criminal offences. Among these were the unlawful use or possession of stolen property, armed robbery, housebreaking, theft, common robbery, fraud, attempted murder and theft of petrol.

Arrests were also made for common assault and assault with the attempt to cause grievous bodily harm under the Domestic Violence Act, shoplifting, driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless and/or negligent driving, contravention of the Gauteng Liquor Act, contravention of a protection order and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.

“During September, the detectives were also hard at work tracing suspects on cases which had already been opened,” said Masotsha. “A number of people were brought to book for assault causing grievous bodily injury and common assault, under the Domestic Violence Act. These arrests were in line with our zero tolerance towards gender-based violence.”

Masotsha added that criminality would not be tolerated by Norwood police and that all policing precincts would continue to be monitored. He said following the arrests, suspects would soon appear in various magistrates’ courts to be held accountable for their alleged offences.

He thanked residents for their tip-offs and encouraged the community to continue to support the police through reporting crime and suspicious activity. This could be done through contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10 111, or by downloading the My SAPS app on any smartphone.
