Learners receive lessons on how to protect themselves from Covid-19

HILLCREST – Epicentre visits schools around Region B to equip learners with knowledge about Covid-19.

Epicentre Health Research visits schools to give learners important lessons about the coronavirus.

Epicentre Health Research has been implementing large scale national research projects about infectious diseases like Covid-19 for the last 20 years. While their head office is based in Hillcrest, they have Covid-19 drive through testing sites nationwide.

The company visited over 20 schools in Johannesburg which included Parkview, Greenside High School, Parktown High School for Boys, on August 23 until August 30. “We started off in Parkview and expanded our radius. We were a team of three, myself included,” said social media and PR ambassador Sudika Maharajh.

The aim behind the campaign was mainly to try and decrease infections in environments with a large number of people and educating them about the different testing options that’s available to them.

Due to strict Covid-19 protocols the team was not allowed to speak to the kids directly. The team handed out flyers to the teachers and spoke to them instead. The teachers shared this information with the children and were given the flyers to take home.

“This enabled us to educate a wider audience; teachers, children and their families,” she said.

“Our community education campaign doesn’t stop there. We still have our teams out and about visiting businesses, airports, police stations, doctors, libraries and old age homes,” she added.

After considering the high infection rate in schools and the workplace, Epicentre Health Research would like to offer the community the chance to take part in these studies, to help them generate the science to beat the virus.
