Competitive juices flow at the Craigpark Residents Association’s running time trial

CRAIGHALL – The Craigpark Residents Association aims to keep the community spirit alive through a time trial run.

A running time trial has been launched to keep the Craighall Park and Craighall community spirit alive.

The Craigpark Residents Association (CRA) was approached by local Andrew Munro to see if the association could start a running time trial from a local coffee shop to build community spirit and bring in income to a local business. “Since lockdown restrictions lifted, Vice on Rothesay Avenue, Craighall Park has been a meeting spot for many different running groups – so the venue was an obvious choice,” the association said in a statement.

The running time trial started on September 1 and takes place every Wednesday. It is self-managed and no official timekeeping is done as runners can run at their own set pace and time.

The CRA Running Club can be found on the Strava mobile app and the routes are detailed there as well. There is also a fun chalk leaderboard at the restaurant, sponsored by the association, where people can write down their winning times and get the competitive juices flowing.

The trial consists of two routes – a 5km and an 8km route. Runners can arrive and start the route as early as 06:00 and then write their times on the chalkboard.

“Anyone of any ability is welcome to join. It provides an opportunity for those who are too nervous to run on the streets alone to have company, a platform for residents to get to know each other better over a cup of coffee and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Community gatherings like this will also assist the association to communicate any current initiatives,” the association concluded.
