NCT offers free workshop for children

PARKTOWN – The workshop will take place between 9:00 and 12:00 outdoors.

Children between the ages of seven and 17 are invited to attend a free workshop open day at the National Children’s Theatre (NCT) in Parktown on August 21.

The theatre has been hosting workshops of this nature for the past two decades on Saturday mornings featuring classes in singing, dance and acting.

Karen Landi of NCT said the classes were led by industry professionals including actor, voiceover artist, facilitator and theatre maker Khanyisile Zwane; dancer, singer and choreographer Hugo Madelyn; actor, singer, director and choreographer Louise Duhain; and vocal coach, musical director, session vocalist and performer Christine Ludwig.

Landi said though the class on August 21 was free, it was essential to book a space as NCT was strictly adhering to Covid-19 protocols.

The workshop will take place between 09:00 and 12:00 outdoors.

Landi gave five reasons why children should join:

  • Theatre stimulates creativity and imagination
  • Children get to take a break from real world issues
  • Children can relate to the themes and discover new horizons
  • Theatre builds self-esteem
  • Theatre develops collaborative skills and children make new friends.
