Art fair rescheduled for October

ILLOVO – The programme for 2021 is themed Evergreen (having an enduring freshness/ retaining freshness) and will showcase a selection of art exhibitions by South African and Southern African galleries, collectives, art dealers, creative project spaces, designers as well as specially curated exhibitions.

The Turbine Art Fair (TAF) scheduled to take place in Illovo has revised their dates.

The TAF is a unique South African art fair that brings together galleries, artists and curators from across the country to showcase and sell contemporary art.

The fair was founded in 2013 by The Forum Company and was the first accessible and affordable South African art fair aimed at small-scale and emerging galleries as well as emerging artists and collectors.

The new dates for the ninth edition of the fair are September 30 to October 31. It will take a hybrid format with online viewing rooms and exhibition space at 10 Fricker Road, Illovo.

Founder of TAF Glynis Hyslop said, “The last year and a half has been one we will never forget. We have all been so isolated from each other and the amazing experiences normally on offer throughout the year.

“We believe art needs to be viewed and enjoyed in person. As a result, we have decided to move TAF to October in the hope that the third wave passes and South Africans of all age groups have been able to get vaccinated.”

Hyslop added that the fair was a lifestyle experience and she hoped that by moving the dates, they would be able to bring a much-needed cultural experience to Joburg.

The fair has partnered with Artsy – the world’s largest online art marketplace – in a bid to grow the marketplace for African art and elevate art collecting across a wider market.
