DSJ Grade 1 learners are back at school

PARKTOWN – Grade 1 learners were the first to return to class on July 26.

Grade 1 learners at Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) in Parktown returned to school on July 26 while other grades remained learning online.

Primary school deputy principal Lisa Vosters said all DSJ learners returned to learning online for the past two weeks.

“It has been a tough start, but under the circumstances we understand why we are doing it this way,” said Vosters.

She added that with Grade 1 learners being the youngest, the school felt it important for them to return as quickly as possible.

Other learners would remain online for the duration of this week and return in person on August 2.

“The children are so happy to be back. Even the children online are happy to be busy during the morning. We are lonely and need each other.

“The saddest part of our community is that many families have lost family members and some are in hospital. This is hard for us all and we wish those affected comfort in this time of need.”

School marketing manager Savo Ceprnich said, “All staff at DSJ had the opportunity to be vaccinated over the last five to six weeks.

“We are looking forward to having more and more learners return to ‘proper’ school,” added Ceprnich.
