Union of Jewish Women blesses frontline workers with baked goods

NORWOOD – Various frontline workers were treated to cakes and snacks baked by the Union of Jewish Women on Nelson Mandela Day.

The Union of Jewish Women (UJW) impacted more than 500 people through baked goods handed out on Mandela Day.

Office and projects manager at UJW Vanessa Weltman said more than 50 women were involved in the baking of goods and a further 10 handed out items on the day.

The group decided to deliver the sweet treats including cakes, scones and cookies to Norwood Police Station, Netcare Rosebank Clinic, various Ampath and Lancet Covid-19 testing stations, a department at Helen Joseph Hospital and Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital on July 18.

“We always do something on Mandela Day and wanted to spoil the hard working healthcare workers this year who have been so hard hit by Covid-19. We wanted to reach out to both private and government hospitals,” said Weltman.
