Bramley police detain suspect in connection with alleged rape

BRAMLEY – Mogodi said the suspect was traced and arrested on July 17. He is scheduled to appear in court soon.

Bramley police have detained a 28-year-old suspect following allegations of rape.

Spokesperson for Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi said on July 9, a complainant reported to police that she was home with her boyfriend and her two children when her boyfriend began treating her badly.

“She further reported to police that her boyfriend, who was heavily under the influence of alcohol, got into the bed where the complainant was sleeping and began raping her. The whole incident took place in front of the complainant’s children,” said Mogodi.

The case was allocated to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation.

Mogodi said the suspect was traced and arrested on July 17. He was scheduled to appear in court soon.

“We advise members of the community to seek professional help when they notice changes in their behaviour due to alcohol abuse.
“The abuse of alcohol at times leads to crime and threatens the safety of individuals, families and communities.

“One of the most significant areas of risk with abuse of alcohol is the connection between alcohol and crimes such as domestic violence and driving while intoxicated.”
