Sandringham CPF patrollers extend their hand of generosity and assist police amid chaos and unrest

SANDRINGHAM – Sector 1 CPF patrollers assist police with food and snacks as they battle the mayhem and unrest.

When chaos erupted in Alexandra Township and other parts of Gauteng, Sandringham police joined forces with other police officials battling looters and trying to contain the chaos.

It was on July 11, as chaos escalated that some of the police who were on duty were already tired and hungry.
At this time, a little help could stretch a bit longer.
This is when the Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 1 patrollers in Sandringham approached the station and asked how they could help.

Police informed them that they needed patrollers to be their eyes and ears of the sector’s borders.
When it was established that police were tired and hungry, patrollers then called others and started to approach local food outlets that would assist police officers.

“We approached friends’ bakery, DJs Deli, Bagel Zone Frangelicas, Fresh Fellas and the KFC Lyndhurst for assistance,” said one of the patrollers, Tzipporah Berman.

Approached outlets gave with open hearts and helped police officers who were on duty, to get through the day by providing food.
Donated parcels were delivered to the police station staff as well as to the officers on patrol.
Some of the customers at KFC Lyndhurst donated cash to buy food.

“They were so appreciative of being provided with food and to be treated with such gratitude – especially as they knew of the heavy night of protesting and rioting they were about to face,” Berman said.

When an update was sent on the community WhatsApp group, one member who owns the Belle Patisserie bakery, Lin Lipschitz, promised to deliver cupcakes the following day.

Their assistance extended to the police officials in Alexandra township when various more donors collectively arranged for a pap-and-wors with gravy meal, 2 litres of cold drinks, chips, chocolates and cupcakes.
