The Makers Valley needs your help

JOBURG – Make a difference this Mandela Month.

The Makers Valley calls on communities to assist in keeping their food security initiatives alive this Mandela Month.

The Makers Valley Partnership is a community-based organisation, made up of areas that include Bertrams, Lorentzville, Bez Valley, Troyeville and Judith’s Paarl.

The organisation aims to empower the Makers Valley neighbourhood toward a good economy through social and creative enterprise development. It was under this umbrella network and other key community organisations where community involvement and project sustainability were moved to the fore.

The organisation has set up six community kitchens across the valley in partnership with existing community champions. Stoves, gas, pots and fresh produce were donated as a kick-start and now these kitchens are providing meals to the community twice every week.

A community swop was also set up by the organisation in partnership with creative waste management organisation, Love Our City Klean (Lock). The community swop initiative allowed residents to collect recyclables that they cash in for points. They then got to spend their points at the Swop Shop where they can ‘purchase’ food, clothing and toiletries.

This Nelson Mandela Month you can assist in ensuring the entity continues making a difference in the community for at least the next six months. All they need is 67 people to each donate R1 000 and they will be able to continue serving the community until the end of the year. No amount is too small, every gesture contributes toward the bigger impact – hunger alleviation for the many whose livelihoods have been affected by this pandemic.

To donate, call or WhatsApp Sandra 079 096 7998 or Thobile 071 529 7226. Alternatively, you can email hello@makersvalley.org.za or visit their website www.makersvalley.org.za
