Help keep the Green Crew alive
GREENSIDE – The GRA is appealing to the community to assist in keeping the 'Green Crew' alive.
The Green Crew is on a mission to continue keeping the leafy green environment of Greenside spic and span.
Funded by the Greenside Residents Association and community, the Green Crew was established in 2019 to help to beautify the suburb by creating garden beds and planting along pavements.
The team is made up of William Matsheke, Tobias Moyo and Themba Matema who work every Friday to keep the suburb neat and tidy by cutting overgrown grass and weeds, mowing, and clearing up litter and illegal dumping.
The crew is now appealing to community members who are looking for gardeners or general help to consider employing a Green Crew member so they can earn extra income. “They are hard-working, diligent and reliable,” said Gillian Jones, who looks after the Green Crew on behalf of the association.
“At the moment, the team only has the capacity to do general maintenance that should be provided by the City. We hope that in future the City will return to providing these services and our small team of three can focus on enhancements to Greenside.”
Jones told Rosebank Killarney Gazette that residents also provided the team with hearty lunches and black refuse bags.
For two of the three-team members, this was their only regular income.
