Norwood rounds up 43 offenders during Easter holidays

NORWOOD – Community members were encouraged to be more cooperative with the police.

Norwood Police Station brought a number of suspects to book during the Easter holidays.

Spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said 43 suspects were arrested.

Masotsha added that most of the suspects had already appeared in court. He urged members of the community not to disrespect the police while they performed their duties as they would face the full might of the law irrespective of who they were.

“Let’s work together to make sure everyone is safe in our country. Thanks again to the community for their understanding during the three weeks when our landlines were offline but the good news is that all telephones are back on track,” said Masotsha.

The following offences were recorded:

  • Assault under domestic violence – 9
  • Assault with the intent to cause grievously bodily harm –7
  • Attempted murder – 1
  • Business robbery – 1
  • Possession of unlicensed firearm –1
  • House robbery –1
  • Housebreaking and theft – 2
  • Assault against the police and crimen injuria – 2
  • Possession of suspected stolen property – 1
  • Possession of dangerous weapon –1
  • Possession of drugs – 2
  • Reckless and negligent driving and driving with no licence – 1
  • Warrant of arrest –1
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol – 2
  • Disaster Management Act (curfew breach) – 2
  • Trespassing and malicious damage to property – 1
  • Shoplifting – 8.
