DSJ issues reading passports to learners as they travel the world through books
PARKTOWN – DSJ ‘immigration official’ and learning centre manager Pam Johannsen said she has been regaled with stories from young bookworms.
Travel restrictions have failed to stop the Grade 4 and 5 learners at Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) from travelling through the universe from the comfort of their homes.
The school quoted American aphorist Mason Cooley who said, “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.”
The DSJ Lernzentrum (learning centre) created a reading passport for every place a book takes a learner. Learners are issued with an ‘immigration stamp’ when they pass through a different place through their readings.
DSJ ‘immigration official’ and learning centre manager Pam Johannsen said she has been regaled with stories as told by young bookworms and several reading passports have been filing up already.
