West Pack Lifestyle donates 20 000 masks to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital

PARKTOWN – The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital aims to raise R10 million during the first phase of the #GiveLikeTheyAreYours campaign.

West Pack Lifestyle donated 20 000 masks and 100 Kids Crazy Crafts Kits valued at R130 000 to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) in response to the hospital’s Serve Like Madiba #GiveLikeTheyAreYours campaign.

The Gazette wrote about the campaign in Open your heart, help to save young lives [Week ending 26 February 2021], appealing to community members to ensure that children at the hospital continue to be saved, even during the uncertain times of Covid-19.

CEO of West Pack Lifestyle Chris Jr. Da Silva said, “From our inception, West Pack Lifestyle has been about family and community. As a proud father, the concept of ‘Give Like They’re Yours’ resonated with me; we wanted to make a difference in the lives of children receiving treatment at the NMCH.”

CEO of the hospital, Dr Mandisa Maholwana said the current needs for the hospital include donations to protect staff and families during the pandemic.

“Our needs at the hospital are vast and we are thankful for patients who continue to meet us where they can by engaging our hospital on how they can make a difference. As such, we are extremely grateful to West Pack Lifestyle for this donation as there is an ongoing need to make sure that our staff are able to continue providing care to our patients in a safe manner.”

Dr Maholwana was also grateful for the craft kits, which will ensure that patients have educational play materials at their disposal during their admission. Da Silva said that it was an honour for West Pack Lifestyle to contribute in a meaningful way to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

“Madiba always reminded us that change starts with us… with service to others and we want to show the healthcare workers here at NMCH how much we appreciate their service. We want to demonstrate to the brave children who have been undergoing treatment here that we care.”

Communications and marketing manager at the hospital, Ayabulela Poro said that the hospital aims to raise R10 million during the first phase of the campaign.

Poro encourages community members to support the hospital through donations and volunteering their time.
