New Station Commander for Rosebank Police aims to tackle priority crimes

ROSEBANK – He brings with him a wealth of experience having worked for 32 years in both the Cleveland Police Station and the Hillbrow Police Station.

New station commander for the Rosebank police Lieutenant Colonel Hasani Mashele brings with him a wealth of experience to tackle priority crimes in the Rosebank policing precinct.

Mashele joined the police 32 years ago, starting at Cleveland in 1988 and later being promoted to operational supervisor at Hillbrow police for the past 20 years.

Having joined the team at Rosebank at the start of this year, Mashele said it was his goal to increase police visibility and fight crime by deploying personnel to hotspot areas and staging awareness campaigns.

“My reason for joining the police was a growing concern about the high crime rate and people being robbed in Johannesburg,” said Mashele.

He added that Rosebank police were working closely with security companies in the area to fight crime.

Though the environment in Rosebank was dramatically different from that of Hillbrow, Mashele believed his experience would bode well as he tackles this new challenge.

Mashele said he received a warm welcome from members at the station and would work hard to ensure that service delivery was of a high standard.

He has an open door policy and invites community members to share their feedback with police and bring any concerns to their attention.

A spokesperson for the Rosebank Police Station Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe said, “An experienced senior of his calibre with many new ideas will be a great help to us as members fight to reduce crime in the policing precinct.

“We can all see the growth and development of the Rosebank area with more people working, studying and shopping here. With his experience, we will try our level best to increase visibility and curb crime.”
