Parkview police arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 27, for theft on 13 March at the corner of 4th and 12th Avenue in Parkhurst.
A spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “It is alleged that the victim was sitting at a restaurant when a suspect grabbed his cell phone on the table. The suspect ran to a Toyota Corolla that was parked on the street.”
Sibeko said that the Corolla fled the scene and collided with another vehicle.

When the complainant heard a loud bang, he found the same vehicle that had fled the scene and discovered his cell phone in the back seat of the car.
“The suspect tried to flee on foot but car guards caught him and called the police.”
Sibeko said that during the preliminary investigation it was discovered that the suspects were using fake motor vehicle registrations.

The suspects appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 16 March to answer to charges of theft.
“Residents are advised not to put their valuables or cell phones on the table at restaurants as this gives the criminals the opportunity to steal from them.”
