Greenside High proud of matric class who achieved 99.5 per cent pass rate

GREENSIDE – Top performing learner at the school Muhammad Goolam achieved 100 per cent for mathematics, 99 per cent for AP maths and 99 per cent for physical science. He also achieved an outstanding eight distinctions.

Greenside High School is proud of their matric class who achieved an outstanding 99.5 per cent pass rate with a 97 per cent university pass.

Deputy headmaster Craig Strauss said he felt ecstatic when he received the matric results.

“The children went through so much last year. Many described it as a year from hell. I am so proud of the number of children who achieved distinctions,” added Strauss.

Top performing learner at the school Muhammad Goolam achieved 100 per cent for mathematics, 99 per cent for AP maths and 99 per cent for physical science. He also achieved an outstanding eight distinctions.

Speaking to the Gazette, Goolam said, “The pandemic introduced a number of unprecedented challenges to our matric year. We had to adapt to a new way of learning which was a huge challenge. The school provided me with an excellent support system which I am thankful for.”

He hopes to study a BSC in computer science and applied mathematics at Wits University this year.

Bibi Faatimah Moosa, who achieved six distinctions, said she was pleased with her results and thanked the Greenside teachers who went the extra mile to assist learners through the struggles of learning from home.

“They gave up personal time and family time to put in extra effort to help us, for which I am extremely grateful,” added Moosa.

Top achieving learners included:

  • Eight distinctions: Muhammad Goolam
  • Seven distinctions: Raza Muhammad, Farhaan Matwadia, Kirti Patel and Yaseen Hassim
  • Six distinctions: Evangelia Stratis, Moosa Osman and Bibi Moosa.
