St Mary’s Waverley achieves their best set of results in the school’s 133-year history

WAVERLEY – St Mary's achieved 29 placements in the top one per cent of a subject.

Johannesburg’s oldest school, St Mary’s, Waverley, delivered their best set of results in the school’s 133-year history.

In addition to a 100 per cent pass rate and 100 per cent bachelor’s degree pass, St Mary’s learners delivered 427 distinctions, including 118 A+ symbols.

Each of the 101 learners who wrote the exams passed with an average of 60 per cent or more with 29 learners obtaining seven or more distinctions and 85 per cent of learners at the school achieved an average of 70 per cent or more.

St Mary’s girls also obtained 29 placements in the top one per cent of a subject.

Top achiever Emma Craig achieved nine distinctions while 14 girls achieved eight distinctions and 14 more achieved seven distinctions.

Head of school Deanne King and deputy head Felicia Tobias congratulated the Class of 2020 saying, “The year 2020 was not without its challenges and academic obstacles, but it has culminated in an outstanding set of matric results for the St Mary’s Class of 2020, proving that our students, staff and community are resilient, creative and determined.”
