Norwood police two suspects for attempted murder

NORWOOD – Masotsha encourages members of the public to join hands with police in the fight against crime.

Norwood police arrested two suspects for attempted murder in different sectors of their policing precinct during the festive season.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said, “I can confirm that one male was arrested after shooting at a security officer who was trying to calm down a theft of cell phone situation. Unfortunately, he [the security officer] was shot in the leg by the boyfriend of the cell phone owner.”

The incident took place on 25 December in Sector 1 (Melrose) at about 11.30pm.

Masotsha added that the suspect had been charged with attempted murder and had been detained at Norwood Police Station.

Another suspect was arrested on 31 December 2020 at about 11.45pm following a tip-off from a member of the public. The suspect was wanted for attempted murder for an incident that took place in Sector 4 (Orange Grove) in 2018.

Both suspects were expected to appear in court during the course of the week.

Masotsha applauded the arrest in Orange Grove which was conducted by Station Commander Colonel Phetule Mahasha.

“We thank members of the public who still believe in working together [with police] as a winning team. Indeed we will make a difference.”

He also encouraged members of the public to keep reporting criminal activities on 086 001 0111 or 011 483 4600/09.
