Get them out of lockdown: Woodrock Pop-Up relaunches for the new year

PARKTOWN NORTH – Support the pop-up adoption centre at The Garden Shop.

The Woodrock Pup Pop-Up Store at The Garden Shop in Parktown North is set to reopen on 9 January.

Co-founder of Woodrock Animal Rescue, which is based in Centurion, Stella Meldau explained that the pop-up would include a new look and feel this year. A scouts group has begun a bookstall while Woodrock will also be selling T-shirts, caps and other merchandise to raise funds for the shelter.

Meldau explained that Woodrock only brings dogs to the pop-up that they have good knowledge about. Each dog has a caregiver who consults families or possible adoptees about the dog.

Meldau said that it is a constant struggle to rehome senior dogs. She encouraged community members who are able to consider adopting one of these dogs. “It is so encouraging to see regulars pop in to offer our dogs treats and a cuddle. Be our cheerleaders. Tell all friends and family about the project,” said Meldau.

She also encouraged visitors to take pictures of the dogs when visiting the pop-up. “Be a voice to the voiceless. Maybe your picture will be the change that you hope to see.

“The dogs that you see at pop-up need homes. We want all to understand and experience the joy that one gets from adopting a forgotten dog that has spent years in lockdown at an institution. You are the key to be their ambassadors.”

The pop-up is open between 9am and 2pm every Saturday and Sunday.
