Soup-er Kitchen wants to feed more people

PARKTOWN NORTH – A local restaurant owner garnered support from generous givers in order to distribute daily hot meals to those in need.

Since the start of the nationwide lockdown in March, there have been many Good Samaritans who stepped up to assist communities in need.

Numerous industries, such as the restaurant industry, were severely impacted by Covid-19 regulations. Despite facing his own challenges in keeping his business afloat during these difficult times, The Local Grill owner in Parktown North, Steven Maresch, was not deterred from stepping up to the plate to help the community.

Under the auspices of Chefs with Compassion (CWC) and with the help of volunteers, Maresch opened a Soup-er Kitchen at The Local Grill to support non-governmental organisations (NGOs) across Johannesburg with daily hot, packaged meals to distribute to those in need.

Cartrack also showed its support by donating a large supply of meat towards these meals. Although most of the vegetables and dry goods are sponsored through CWC, there is still a huge need for resources to keep the Soup-er Kitchen going. “We are thankful for partners like Cartrack who have been consistent in helping us with much-needed donations of meat supplies,” said Maresch.

He continued, “Our kitchen provides for around 300 meals per day for communities around Johannesburg. We would like to appeal to the business community to help us to feed more people. It is all of our responsibility to lend a helping hand, especially in this global crisis and where so many people have been negatively affected by the pandemic.”
