Mpianzi family to sue Gauteng Department of Education for R10 million

PARKTOWN – The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that they have received the claim for R10 million in compensation and their legal team will engage with the Mpianzi family accordingly.

The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that Enock Mpianzi’s family is suing the department for R10 million.

In a statement released by the Gauteng Department of Education on 8 June, they confirmed that the Mpianzi family is claiming R10 million and the department’s legal team will engage with them accordingly.

This follows the return of Parktown Boys’ High School headmaster Malcolm Williams on 1 June following his suspension while the matter was being investigated.

According to the department, their investigation into the matter is complete and it was decided that Williams should return to work as there was no possibility that he could interfere with the process.

Enock drowned on his first day of Grade 8 at Parktown Boys’ High School while on an orientation camp at Nyati Bush and River Break in Brits on 15 January. His body was discovered two days later.

Mpianzi family lawyer Ian Levitt confirmed on 15 March that the family would take both civil and criminal action against those implicated in the forensic investigation into Enock’s death.
