Sandton SPCA reopens adoptions

The facilitation of adoptions can only be guaranteed to residents residing in the SPCA's area of jurisdiction.

The Sandton SPCA is delighted to announce that it will be facilitating adoptions this June.

The SPCA (which services a large portion of the Gazette’s distribution area) will be open for adoption appointments on Sundays by appointment only and under strict protocols. “Many of our dogs and cats have been cared for by us since lockdown started back in March, so we would love the opportunity to help them find a forever home,” said general manager Ralph Hohls.

The facilitation of adoptions can only be guaranteed to residents residing in the SPCA’s area of jurisdiction. “If you live outside of our jurisdiction, we will first need to check with the SPCA in the jurisdiction in which you reside, whether they are willing to do a home check,” said the organisation.

The society added that due to current restrictions under the national lockdown, the following steps must be adhered to for your adoption process to be successful:

  • Call the office on 011 444 7730 and request an adoption form to be emailed to you.
  • Make an appointment to come and look at the dogs and cats available for adoption. You will be given 30 minutes to view your animals.
  • If you have existing dogs, you will need to bring them along to your appointment for a compatibility test with the prospective new pet. In this case, your appointment will be made for one hour. You need to disclose this at the time of booking your appointment.
  • You will need to agree to have a pre-home inspection done where an SPCA inspector will come to your home and check that the home is fit for having the selected pet. An appointment will be made for the home inspection and all security requirements must be met during the home inspection.
  • Adoption fees (R950 for dogs, R800 for cats)
  • If, after your appointment is done, you have found an animal you would like to adopt, please complete the payment of the R200 booking deposit before you leave.
  • Once the above steps are completed successfully, your home inspection will be scheduled.
  • Upon approval of your home inspection, we will notify you that your adoption application has been successful and the balance of the adoption fee via EFT is then due and payable.
  • Once the above-mentioned step is complete, the animal will be scheduled for sterilisation and microchipping. A date and time will be communicated to you as to when you will be able to collect your pet. Names of person/s collecting animals must be confirmed with our office before you come.
