Williams returns as principal of Parktown Boys

PARKTOWN – The GDE has reported that their investigation into Enock Mpianzi's death is now complete.

Principal of Parktown Boys’ High School Malcolm Williams is back at work following his suspension in January.

The Gauteng Department of Education reported that Williams returned to work on 25 May in preparation for the return of matric learners on 1 June.

Williams was suspended in January following the tragic drowning of Grade 8 learner Enock Mpianzi.

An independent inquiry recommended that charges be levelled against him.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said that the principal was served with the charges, but the hearing had to be postponed due to lockdown.

According to the Gauteng Education Department, their investigation into the matter is complete and it was decided that he should return to work as there is no possibility that he could interfere with the process.

“It must be noted that parents, through the SGB, also supported his return to the school,” said a statement by the department.

Lesufi said, “We will await the final report of the disciplinary hearing as well as the criminal case outcome before we can act further on this matter.”

“Unfortunately, the lockdown delayed matters and the department is compelled to respect the rights of the principal,” said Lesufi.
