Pridwin boys sell masks to raise funds

Then the boys had the idea to sell the masks at a profit to raise money.

Two young boys from Pridwin Preparatory School in Melrose are already doing their bit for the community. The two boys Adam and Zaheer Angamia are selling masks and they need residents’ support.

According to their mother Zeyn Angamia, the boys are selling the masks in order to raise funds for Feed Foundation SA. Feed is a non-profit organisation run solely by volunteers; all money raised is passed on to people in need. The acronym Feed stands for Feed, Educate, Empower and Develop. The organisation’s focus right now is alleviating the desperate food shortage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Angamia said, “Since the pandemic reached South Africa, Adam and Zaheer have been inundated with images and information showing the impact of Covid-19 and the plight of people in our communities. Through our family involvement with the Feed Foundation, they have seen first-hand the desperate food shortage and need for assistance.”She added that for the last few years, they have helped prepare food hampers with Feed on a Sunday during the month of Ramadan. However, they were disappointed that due to social distancing protocol they couldn’t help in a concrete way this year and wanted to help in some other way.

She went on to add that they had bought masks to support a seamstress who was retrenched when the pandemic hit. The seamstress is completely unaffiliated to Feed. Then the boys had the idea to sell the masks at a profit to raise money for Feed.”They passed the message on to family and friends at Pridwin Prep and Little Star Montessori (where their little sister goes to school) and the support has been overwhelming both in sales and donations,” she said.

She added the boys have historically been involved in other programs that Feed runs such as the hampers and feeding schemes as well as the Girl Rising campaign project and Bees Baking School.
