House owner reports lawbreaker to police

PARKVIEW – The suspect will appear in court soon to answer on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm.

A 26-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm on 12 May in Emmarentia.

According to Parkview Police Station spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the station officers received a complaint from a house owner in Emmarentia.

“A man inside the house owner’s property, in possession of a firearm, was apprehended. The police conducted further investigation and it was discovered that the suspect did not have the licence to possess the firearm,” Captain Sibeko said.

She added that according to Firearms Control Act number 60 of 2000(3), no person may possess a firearm unless he or she holds a licence, permit or authorisation issued in terms of this act for that firearm. Captain Sibeko said a black 9mm Round and ammunition were found, the suspect was arrested and the investigation is continuing. The suspect will appear in court soon to answer on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm.
