Joburg North remains at the epicentre for Covid-19 in Gauteng

Regions B and E record a combined total of 491 Covid-19 confirmed cases.

Johannesburg’s northern suburbs remain at the epicentre of Covid-19 in Gauteng as the province confirmed a total of 1 661 cases, 1026 recoveries, and 14 deaths as of 4 May.

The Gauteng Department of Health confirmed that while City of Johannesburg reported 954 positive cases and 620 recoveries, regions B and E reported a combined total of 419 confirmed cases.

Region B, which includes Randburg, Rosebank, Emmarenti, Greenside, Melville, Mayfar, Northcliff, Parktown and Parktown North, recorded 155 cases.

Region E, which included Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove and Houghton, recorded 264 cases.

According to the Gauteng Department of Health it is “spreading the net wide” to ensure that more people are tested for Covid-19 in the province.

“To date, 1 799 704 have been screened across the province with 25 838 tests conducted,” the department added.
