Day 1 of lockdown level 4 in photos: Are regulations being followed?

CRAIGHALL – The community is warned to follow the regulations set out in level 4 lockdown.

Get ready, get set, it’s day 1 of level 4 in lockdown and Joburgers put on their takkies to enjoy the fresh air in their leafy suburbs.

For most citizens, this is a welcome reprieve to the monotony over the last month of SA’s Covid-19 lockdown.

Families could be seen walking their dogs, spending time jogging in the streets, or simply taking a walk. In many suburbs in the Gazette’s area such as Craighall, Delta Park and Houghton, community members were seen obeying the level 4 restrictions (in regards to exercise) which are:

  • Exercise is permitted between 6am and 9am within a radius of 5km from a person’s residence, while no organised group sessions are allowed.
  • Any place or premises normally open to the public or where people may gather are prohibited. These include public parks, sports grounds and fields, beaches and swimming pools.

However, many Facebook community groups were buzzing with snapshots of cyclists, joggers, or families using parks, and green belts. Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck asked that his community obey the rules of the lockdown regulations under level 4.

Many residents were concerned that by not obeying the rules, the risk of spreading Covid-19 is high or that the country would go back to level 5.

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “JMPD can be called for contravention of Covid-19 Regulations. In terms of level 4, running is permitted between 6am and 9am.”

He said that the public must stick to the rules set out in the regulations especially the times and where they can exercise.
