People arrested for contravening lockdown rules

JOBURG – Seven suspects were arrested by the JMPD officers for failing to comply with the lockdown rules.


Four people were arrested by Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers in Braamfontein on 31 March for failing to adhere to the lockdown rules. 

The four were said to be in contravention of the National Disaster Management Act by failing to confine themselves at their places of residence.

JMPD officers also arrested three suspects in the Joburg CBD in contravention of the Act for selling prohibited goods. The arrested suspects were alleged to have been supplying street vendors with cigarettes. 

Officers also received a tip-off of a suspect that was selling cigarettes from his flat. The suspect was arrested by IIOC Reaction Unit officers at  the corner of De Villiers and Wanderers streets.
